Renovated Moda Pier Enchanted Istanbulites!
The Historical Moda Pier, which has become the symbol of Istanbul's Kadıköy neighborhood, was renovated as part of the "150 Projects in 150 Days" project initiated by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. The restoration works carried out by IBB's Department of Cultural Assets and IBB Heritage teams have ended and the Historical Moda Pier has been put back into service with its renewed state. The restoration of the Historical Moda Pier, which has a library with 9000 works of art, as well as open-air study areas, a terrace and a cafe, made a great impact on social media and was appreciated by Istanbulites.
The restoration of the Historical Moda Pier, the oldest and most iconic structure in Kadıköy, has been ongoing for many years. In 2015, it was determined that some conditions in the restoration that started in 2015 were damaging to this historical structure, and the restoration was objected by the TMMOB Chamber of Architects and Kadıköy Municipality Protection, Implementation and Inspection Bureau (KUDEP) and the works were stopped. After being closed for a long period of time, the restoration of the Historical Moda Pier, designed by Architect Vedat Tek, who brought very important historical buildings to Turkey before and after the Republic, was restarted by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Department of Cultural Assets. The historical Moda Pier was inaugurated on August 19, 2022 with a ceremony attended by Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. After the opening, it became the top agenda item on social media.
Ekrem İmamoğlu said the following during the opening: "When we came to office, we stated to the people of Istanbul that we would realize the idle piers and idle sea structures in the most correct way. Sea transportation is an important issue of Istanbul. We took over sea transportation at 3.5%, we increased it by 25% only in the Bosphorus. We produced 50 of the 50 Sea Taxis in our own shipyard."
As a result, the Historical Moda Pier, one of the important cultural heritages of Istanbul, has been reunited with Istanbulites. You can also visit the Historical Moda Pier in your spare time and visit its library or have a pleasant time with your friends in its café.
