Motorway Speed Limits Increase and the New Era Starts on July 1st!

Speeding is the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to danger in traffic. Speeding endangers the lives of not only the person doing it, but also all the people around them. Fast-flowing city life and the constant rush to get somewhere lead drivers to speed in traffic. This is where rules and limits come into play. Traffic fines are used as a deterrent and speeding is reduced, especially on intercity roads.
What is the current speed limit?
Although the speed limits vary according to vehicles, they are set at 50 kilometers per hour in residential areas, 110 kilometers per hour on divided roads, 120 kilometers per hour on highways, and 90 kilometers per hour on intercity two-way highways. Drivers are given a tolerance of 10% above these limits.
New Motorway Speed Limits
With the new regulation, as of July 1, the highway speed limit is changing in a way that will satisfy drivers. Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, who made a statement recently, announced that the speed limit on highways will be increased as of July 1. On 3 highways, the maximum speed limit will increase from 120 km to 140 km and the penalty limit will be 154 km.
Süleyman Soylu said: "We are preparing studies as of July 1 within the framework of the law of the Ministry of Interior. Speeds will be increased on highways. The Northern Marmara Motorway, Istanbul Izmir Motorway and Ankara-Nigde Motorway are able to handle these levels. But this does not mean that they should speed up to 154 km. Highways will make markings in some places."
How much is the speed limit fine?
Exceeding the speed limit set for the road you are on is defined as violating the safe speed limit. The average speed is determined based on measurements made according to the road and traffic conditions. Safe travel starts with respecting these speed limits.
The penalties for drivers who violate the speed limit are as follows: 10-30% over the limit: 428 TL. If you go further, the fine for exceeding the limit by 30-50%: 888 TL. For exceeding the speed limit by more than 50%, which is very dangerous, there is a fine of 1,825 TL.
